Follow this procedure when you first setup the clock or after a power failure.
NOTE: The Map lights will flash at power on and after a power failure indicating the time needs to be set.
1. Power On – Plug the USB power adapter into a wall socket. Plug the USB-A connector of the power cable into the USB power adapter and the USB-C connector into the back of the clock. The Map lights will flash at power on and after a power failure indicating the time needs to be set.
2. UTC Triangle – Locate the small triangle on the outside edge of the map. The triangle indicates the location of Coordinated Universal Time or UTC. The triangle is approximately in line with Greenwich, England.
3. UTC Time – Search the web for the current time at UTC.
4. Rotate the Map - Press and hold the CCW (counter clockwise) or CW (Clockwise) push buttons until the triangle points to the current time at UTC. Pushing and holding the button for more than 5 seconds will cause the map to rotate quickly.
Note: The map rotates counterclockwise once in 24 hours in alignment with the Earth. The longitude lines that radiate from the center of the map indicate the approximate width of each of the 24 hour time zones. The time zones represent “Standard Time” and will be an hour behind Daylight Savings Time.
When the clock is powered on it cycles through the colors of the rainbow (Violet > Indigo > Blue > Green > Yellow > Orange > Red > White).
Follow this procedure to select a single color or to return to color cycling mode.
1. Color Button – Push and release the Color button to select a color. Each push displays one of the 8 colors in sequence.
2. Color Fade Mode – The 9th push returns the clock to color fade mode
Follow these instructions if the clock body or face requires cleaning.
WARNING – Do not to touch the front surface of the clock as it can scratch easily.
WARNING – Do not put the clock in direct sunlight which can fade the color of the wood box.
Clock Front – Mix one drop of dish washing soap in 8 oz (240 mL) of water. Dip a soft cotton cloth into the water and soap mix and gently clean dust or fingerprints off the front surface of the clock. Gently wipe away any water residue with a dry soft cloth.
Clock Box – Use one of the following methods to clean the surface of the wood box:
1. Water & Vinegar – mix 1 part vinegar with 10 parts water and clean with a cotton terry cloth.
2. Dish Soap – mix one drop of dish washing soap to 8oz (240mL) of water and gently clean the surface of the wood box. Use a second damp cloth to remove any soap residue then dry the surface with a dry cloth.
Once the current time at UTC has been set (see “How do I set the time” above) the time can at any location be determined by following the desired location outward to the numbers surrounding the clock.
For instance, in the diagram above, the time in Seattle, Washington, USA (UTC time zone -8hrs) is 10pm (Pacific Standard Time).
The center of the time zone indicates the current time.
The map rotates counterclockwise once in 24 hours in alignment with the Earth. The longitude lines that radiate from the center of the map indicate the approximate area of each of the 24 hour time zones. The time zones represent “Standard Time” and will be an hour behind during Daylight Savings Time.
Many locations around the globe observe Daylight Savings Time (DST).
Daylight saving time is the practice of advancing clocks (typically by one hour) during warmer months so that darkness falls at a later clock time. The typical implementation of DST is to set clocks forward by one hour in either the late winter or spring ("spring forward"), and to set clocks back by one hour in the fall (North American English) ("fall back") or autumn (UK English) to return to standard time.
